WASHINGTON (AP) ? President Barack Obama will meet with Republican senators on Capitol Hill Tuesday to appeal for support on a use-of-force resolution against Syria.
Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell's office says the president will attend lunch with the GOP lawmakers. The president had already planned to be on Capitol Hill Tuesday to meet with the Senate Democratic caucus.
The flurry of White House outreach comes as the Senate nears a vote on legislation that would give the president a maximum of 90 days to carry out a military act. The measure, which was approved in the Senate Foreign Relations Committee last week, includes a ban on ground combat operations in Syria.
Obama is pursuing military action in response to a deadly chemical weapons attack in Syria last month.
