It's not pretty, but here it is: 50 percent of Americans say they'd use a smartphone to take secret video of of others doing an assortment of silly, sexy or gross things.
Here's the breakdown, from Harris Interactive, which polled 2,361 people ages 18 and older (not younger!) about who and what they'd record secretly if given the chance:
- 23 percent: "People in embarrassing outfits"
- 20 percent: "Athletes at a sporting event"
- 15 percent: "Someone tripping/falling"?? of course, this wouldn't happen to you.
- 10? percent: "Sexy waitress at a restaurant"
- ?9 percent: "Shirtless hunk mowing the neighbor?s lawn"
- ?7 percent:? Cheerleaders
- ?7 percent: "Boss or coworker sneaking a second doughnut." What about the third doughnut?
- ?6 percent: "Disgusting grooming habits"?? Yes, you know what those are.
- ?5 percent:? "Couple kissing or making out"
There were 8 percent who said "other," and we can only imagine what that includes: Pervy shower or love scenes, or butt-scratching or....well, that's why "other" is called "other."
The survey was done for Qumu, a business video platform provider, and was drafted "based on Qumu?s experience in mobile and tablet use in the workplace," the company says.
Along those workplace lines, 47 percent said they would find it "funny or interesting" if a coworker shared, uploaded or posted a video on the company's Intranet or shared-files server. We can tell you, and you probably already know: IT would not find it funny or interesting.
So, the 47 percent of you who have a job, and want to keep it, don't encourage your coworkers to go there. But, we'll understand if you take a video of a coworker wearing a silly outfit and tripping in it while eating that second doughnut.
