Sipahioglu, founder of photo agency Sipa, dies (AP)

PARIS ? Photojournalist Goksin Sipahioglu, who founded the photo agency Sipa, has died. He was 84.

The agency announced his death Wednesday on its website.

Guillaume Delpech, news photo editor there, said Sipahioglu was admitted to the American Hospital outside Paris on Monday. It was not immediately clear what he died of.

Born in Turkey, Sipahioglu captured everything from the tense days in Havana during the Cuban Missile Crisis to the French riots of May 1968.

In 1973, he and his companion, American journalist Phyllis Springer, founded Sipa, which is named for him. The two married in 2002.

Sipahioglu is both a Chevalier and an Officer of France's Order of Arts and Letters.
