de B?ren Family: Story@Home Conference

Unlike many who search their family past only to discover precious little, I am uniquely blessed to have access to a wealth of materials covering more than eight centuries. From the blood-drenched battlefields of Europe and the steaming jungles of the Amazon, to the fertile pampas of Argentina and California's Central Valley the de B?ren family tale like a great novel is bursting with intrigue, drama, and compelling personal stories framed by the grand sweep of history.

Captivating as it is, at a certain point in my research I started to feel oddly empty.?For years I had focused almost exclusively on facts and figures ? preferring quantity of information over quality ? ignoring the raw emotional component of my ancestor?s lives.?I thought I knew what this gift of history meant to me, but I hadn?t gone deep enough.?Once I did, I was able to understand their lives and myself in a whole new way. From that point my research took on a more profound and personal dimension. Ultimately, my journey to share my family?s story has been an effort to tell my own.

I will be presenting?Finding My Family, Finding Myself?on March 23rd in Salt Lake City at?the?Story@Home Conference, a storytelling conference?held in partnership with?RootsTech.?I feel it is a unique opportunity to tell my story and am deeply honored to be presenting among such?amazing company.
