1 dead, 2 injured in Harvard-Yale tailgate crash

NEW HAVEN, Conn. ?? A U-Haul truck loaded with beer kegs plowed through a parking lot filled with tailgaters Saturday before the Yale-Harvard football game, killing one woman and injuring two others, authorities said.

Police spokesman David Hartman said the truck entered a parking lot designated for pre-game tailgating, sped up for unknown reasons and hit the women. The truck then crashed into other U-Haul vans in the lot.

A 30-year-old Massachusetts woman was taken to Yale-New Haven hospital, where she was pronounced dead. Another woman was seriously hurt, but was in stable condition. The third woman suffered minor injuries.

The New Haven Register reported that the driver of the U-Haul was taken into custody.

Police said there were several conflicting accounts from witnesses. Some told police it appeared the truck suddenly lurched forward; others said the driver pressed the pedal in road rage because the women weren't moving fast enough, according to the Register.
