When reading?The Romantic Dogs, it seems necessary to keep reminding yourself that Roberto Bola?o was as much a writer of prose as he was of poetry ? you cannot help but feel as if you are being told a story.

It is easy to read with its natural speech (due to the creditable translation by Laura Healy) and its effortless depth. Throughout, Bola?o?s early life of ?chasing revolution? between countries and cultures seems to give the collection a context of its own.

Pieces such as the title-poem The Romantic Dogs and Visit to the Convalescent have a strong sense of personal experience and nostalgia. We seem to be reading into Bola?o?s own memories and viewing his melancholic youth through the prose-like narratives.

? a beguiling cultural narrative that I found hard to put down?

The constant allusions to detectives, and friends from Mexico, both engage and detach us from Bola?o himself. As a book it is more like reading a collection of short stories.

The collection covers a whole mixture of motifs, and Bola?o?s strength is his ability to precisely portray moods through the extended themes. Due to its beguiling cultural narrative, it is one of the few books of poetry that I found hard to put down once I had started.

The Romantic Dogs has been republished by New Directions and is available for $15.95 (paperback).

Those ubiquitous cardboard trading cards of your youth? Yeah, those sure were nice, especially how thin they were and the way they didn?t require a charger to operate when they ran low on power.

But the Panini HRX, in what is being touted as the world? first video trading card, sure does need its own power supply. That?s so it can store enough juice to play the HD video (up to 30 minutes worth) stored on its 2-gigabyte flash drive. But don?t worry. Technically, it?s still made of cardboard.

Jason Howarth, the company?s VP of marketing, said they ?wanted to make sure that there was a level of uniqueness and collectibility.? I?d say they?re aces on that one, as the cards are slated to be inserted randomly into the company?s Totally Certified Basketball line. It?ll debut in June, just as the NBA Finals are wrapping up, and a pack of five cards will retail for $20. (Mind you, that still doesn?t guarantee you get one.)

It?s just a prototype in the promotional video seen above, but the final version should have a button in front that will start and stop video playback, while a micro-USB port on the side will be used for charging and connecting to standard USB cables. Footage shown on the card will be shot exclusively for Panini, and the card can also be used as an external drive when you plug it into your computer.

It?s a shame that Los Angeles Clippers star and reigning Slam Dunk champ Blake Griffin couldn?t seem any less interested, as he and three other players ? Kobe Bryant, Washington?s John Wall and Oklahoma City?s Kevin ? will be the guinea pig participants hoping to get this initial effort off the ground.

Although, that Panini and Recom Group (which provided the tech know-how for this operation) couldn?t produce a final, fleshed-out product for Griffin after 18 months of R&D may not bode well for the future of video trading cards.

Personally, I thought it was revolutionary when 8-year-old me got his hands on a Baseball Talk system, which featured super-sized baseball cards that had a little vinyl recording glued to the back. Yes, this was 1989, but if you put the card into the proprietary audio player and closed the lid, you heard Mel Allen interview the player on that ?card.? At the time, that seemed like a true technological breakthrough.

But with video embedded and available everywhere these days, we?ll see if video-enabled pieces of cardboard are really what consumers demand.

Given the incredible box-office success of 2009's mega-hit comedy "The Hangover," it seemed as though a future installment of the outlandish antics of "Wolf Pack" members Alan, Stu and Phil would be inevitable. Which brings us to "The Hangover Part II," which is opening in theaters this weekend.

MTV News caught up with the men behind the magic recently, actors Bradley Cooper, Ed Helms and Zach Galifianakis, who not only explained Cooper's head-shaving skills, but also revealed that the main castmembers were originally hesitant to venture into sequel territory.

"I think it was more excitement once we got the second script, which was really wonderful — actually stronger than the first one," Cooper said of getting the gang back together again. "It was just utter excitement to play these characters again and hopefully deliver a movie where fans will be excited to see what happened. We get to see where Alan lives, we get to see Stu progress to two years, Phil as well, so I think it was just exciting to hopefully provide a lot more comedy for people who liked the first one."

Helms has also said that there was some hesitancy to try and make lightning strike twice in a second film.

"We had no idea that 'The Hangover' would do what it did, so we were all kind of blown away," Helms told us at a New York screening of the film. "But then very quickly a conversation for a sequel started, and we were all kind of like, 'I don't know.' And then Todd showed us the script, and it was amazing, so we were like, 'Yeah, let's do that.' "

Regarding what audiences can expect from "Hangover Part II," Helms said to expect a bit more of the same.

"[It's] disturbing, horrifying, unnerving," he said. "Oh, and also hilarious. I forgot that ... Lots of craziness happened on set, and you'll see all of that in the movie."

A U.S. senator has blocked a controversial bill that would enlist ISPs, search engines and other businesses in blocking access to alleged websites infringing copyright.

Senator Ron Wyden, an Oregon Democrat, has blocked the Preventing Real Online Threats to Economic Creativity and Theft of Intellectual Property Act, or PROTECT IP Act, from coming to the Senate floor for a vote.

On Thursday, just two weeks after the bill was introduced, the Senate Judiciary Committee unanimously voted to move the PROTECT IP Act to the Senate floor. Under Senate rules, a single senator can place a hold on a bill, although the block can be overridden by a 60-vote majority.

The PROTECT IP Act would allow the U.S. Department of Justice to seek court orders requiring search engines and ISPs to stop sending traffic to websites accused of infringing copyright. The bill would also allow copyright holders to seek court orders requiring payment processors and online ad networks to stop doing business with allegedly infringing websites.

The legislation would attack free speech online and hurt e-commerce, Wyden said.

"I understand and agree with the goal of the legislation, to protect intellectual property and combat commerce in counterfeit goods, but I am not willing to muzzle speech and stifle innovation and economic growth to achieve this objective," he said in a statement. "At the expense of legitimate commerce, [the bill's] prescription takes an overreaching approach to policing the Internet when a more balanced and targeted approach would be more effective. The collateral damage of this approach is speech, innovation and the very integrity of the Internet."

Wyden called the Internet the "shipping lane" of the 21st century. "It is increasingly in America's economic interest to ensure that the Internet is a viable means for American innovation, commerce, and the advancement of our ideals that empower people all around the world," he said. "By ceding control of the Internet to corporations through a private right of action, and to government agencies that do not sufficiently understand and value the Internet, [the bill] represents a threat to our economic future and to our international objectives."

Critics of the bill have said it would lead to hundreds of court cases brought by copyright owners against online businesses. The legislation would lead to a blacklist of Internet sites and compromise the Internet's Domain Name System, critics have said.

But backers of the bill have said new methods are needed to combat copyright infringement by foreign websites. The bill would target the worst foreign websites trafficking in digital piracy and counterfeit goods and would dry up their business by focusing on user traffic, advertising and payments, proponents said.

"Copyright infringement and the sale of counterfeit goods can cost American businesses billions of dollars, and result in hundreds of thousands of lost jobs," Senator Patrick Leahy, a Vermont Democrat and lead sponsor of the bill, said Thursday.

U.S. law enforcement agencies are limited in their ability to combat infringing websites operated overseas, Leahy added in a statement. "American consumers are too often deceived into thinking the products they are purchasing at these websites are legitimate because they are easily accessed through their home's Internet service provider, found through well known search engines, and are complete with corporate advertising, credit card acceptance, and advertising links that make them appear legitimate," he said.

Wyden blocked a similar bill, the Combating Online Infringement and Counterfeits Act, or COICA, after the Senate Judiciary Committee passed it in late 2010. COICA would have expanded federal agencies' power to seize the domain names of allegedly infringing websites.
