Speech Therapists, officially called speech-language pathologists and sometimes called SLP?s, tend to work with patients who have a variety of speech-related disorders. Coursework includes anatomy, physiology, the nature of disorders and the elements of acoustics. Graduate students recieve supervised clinical preparation.

Speech pathologists must pass the Praxis Exam in Speech-Language Pathology, a national exam administered by the Instructional Testing Service. Licensing requirements additionally include 300 to 375 hours of supervised clinical practice in addition to nine months of postgraduate clinical background. :

The job outlook of speech therapists is expected to expand faster than the average for all occupations by the year 2018. Multilingual speech language pathologists will be greatest in demand, especially those who speak fluent Spanish and English. More speech language pathologists will work in private practices as hospitals and other health care facilities, as well as schools, will contract out for services.?
